i'm back and so are the rains!

in the summer of 2006, i watched with increasng uneasiness the images of a drowning bombay on british television. they must be exaggerating, i thought. its always this bad.
the images were relentless.
and the enormity of 26/7 sank in only when i returned home a few months later.
the battle scars were on the walls.
the door to our home, three feet above street level was damaged.
the walls in our living room had water marks hip-high and two of our cars drowned. like drowned, r.i.p.

as i travel home in the first downpour of the season today, i cant help but acknowledge that 26/7 has left this city scared of the rains.

the first thing i will tell the driver once i'm home is to park the car on the ramp. just in case....the ghost of 26/7, like i said.
